I would love to have an expensive equipment rack that would make my friends green with envy but at Cheap Dave's Home Theater I have a simple philosophy and if you can't tell the difference when the lights are down then that isn't one of the things to spend the big bucks on.

So what do I use in my home theater. I was planning on building a simple shelf system out of 2x4's but my wife brought home a wire shelf system form K-mart. I don't want to be a name dropper but Iyes it is from the MArtha Stewart collection. Not it isn't fancy but it does one of the things you want in an equipment rack very well. It allows maximum passive ventilation and cooling. The wire shelves don't block the airflow.

The shelves are adjustable height and I could add more shelves if I wanted to. I think the whole thing cost lest that $60. Also I have the rack oriented at a right angle to the wall so I can get to the back as easily as the front. That is a feature worth having.

So in my home theater if someone says "nice rack" it is because they are watching Selma Hayek not because of what my equipment is sitting on in a closet in the dark.
