Cheap Dave's Home Theater

Halloween Movie Party

Some people look at a dedicated home theater room as a waste of space. But after living with this purpose built room for a while I can say that it gets more use than you would think.

Tonight was just one such occasion. We hosted a haloween party for our godson (14). He is definitely girl crazy as his party inlcueded 7 girls and him. (married guys would say that is just plain crazy). The party was planned as a scary movie night. So we started early and played one movie (The Ring) and then had dinner and the followed with (The Ring 2). I think the second one was getting a little too scary for some of the girls as they started drifting out and checking out the Wii. But after that we put on Nightmare Before Christmas and they all gravitated back to the HT.

It really is a nice room for a party as it spreads people out. We have had several parties in this house and have never experienced the "all men pack into the kitchen" phenomenon so common these days. It increases your "living space" and gives you a noise separation (so loud movies in the HT don't disrupt music or conversation in the rest of the house). In fact we have our in-laws downstairs and have never had a compalint about the noise from the HT. (I have to pat myself on the back here. I sound insulated the HT and my MIL's bedroom.)

It can also be a great way to divide kids from adults (if that is your goal) or men from women. Simply by the movie you chose to play (or football game etc.)

Overall the party was a success and the HT played a big part in that. I have to say that our Godson held his own with the girls. (although they did veto his music playlist in the first 5 minutes).

Fro the record for 14 year-olds I would reccommend the three movies below: Poltergeist, Little Shop of Horrors and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
