NETFLIX - Having the ultimate DVD collection 3 movies at a time

OK I have used NETFLIX before. I quit it when I realized the movies were spending way too much time sitting around the house waiting to get mailed. But that was my fault not theirs. I signed back up and resolved to do better at sending them back. more →

PS3 - Blu-Ray overload
I finally got a PS3 and therefore a Blu-ray player. I am still on overload with watching Blu-ray movies and playing PS3 games. No time to do a complete review now but I promise I will when my eyes don't look like a bush baby's. Let me just say this is the most dramatic improvement to my system since we got the HD hooked up. I already got my reference disk - Fifth Element. I haven't watched it yet but soon and often.... Stay tuned. more →

Projection Room
OK I have made fun of fancy equipment racks but that doesn't mean I don't think you should put some thought into where and how to house your components. As I have said I am a big proponent of projectors. One thing about using rear projectors is you may want to consider putting all of your components at the rear of your room as opposed to the front. more →

A word about cables

Building a DVD collection
So we love our home theater and we love to share it with others. We have people over for dinner and a movie about every other week. I don't like to run to the video store every time so I like to have a good DVD collection on hand. more →

Soundproofing
This topic will mainly be of interest to those who are lucky enough to be building their dream home theater from scratch. After cramming 2 home theaters into rooms that were never intended for such a use I finally got to do one from scratch. That is really a treat. more →

Sub-woofers: the most bang for your buck
After the very large picture probably the most impressive thing in the home theater is being able to make really good bass and lots of it. more →

The Cheap Dave HT Philosophy
Ok what is the Cheap Dave philosophy when it comes to home theater? I have known people for years who say "I can't wait until plasma TVs get cheap enough then I will buy one". Why invest so much value in some future technology and put off something just because you can't afford the "ideal" set up? more →

What size room do I need?
When I am looking at houses or condos or invited to a friends house for dinner I am always sizing up the rooks to see where I might put a home theater. I am currently on my third and this is the only one that was designed with HT in mind. more →
