Movie Review: Blow Dry

Rating: It's a Keeper!

This is a touching Britcom about an unlikely subject. A hair styling contest.

This is a touching Britcom about an unlikely subject. A hair styling contest.

The hair contest gets the usual Rocky treatment but you still aren't sure the good guys are going to pull it out in the end. The cast is great. Led by Alan Rickman (Galaxy Quest) as the former champ who has hung up his scissors. Also a young Josh Hartnett before he became a big heartthrob as the young up and coming barber in this sleepy town.

Although the mayor is thrilled to have the national spotlight, with each scene becoming more of a ham, for the camera, the town isn't too sure this is the kind of attention they were looking for.

There is a lot of back-story here that I don't want to get in to. So why does this movie get the highest rating on my scale? First of all there is a good chance your guests won't have seen it. That is a big point getter in my system. A good collection will have a lot of this type of movie. It also is just better than you think it is going to be. I have seen it several times but this was the first time I watched it in my HT. It was like seeing it for the first time. I was more touched than I thought I would be and even though I knew how it was going to end I was filled with anticipation.

Other cast members: Natasha Richardson ( Nell), Rachel Griffiths (The Rookie), and Bill Nighy (The Girl in The Cafe).

So take my recommendation and add Blow Dry to your permanent collection.
