Movie Review: Hoodwinked

Rating: Buy it used

This is another of those movies that is great for the whole family. It is an animated movie with a slightly more edgy attitude (but not so much that even little kids couldn't watch it). It just takes a standard fairy tale like Little Red Riding Hood and gives it the Usual Suspect treatment.

Maybe the version we have heard all our lives is just a little too cut and dried. Maybe the Big Bad wolf had an alibi. Did you ever think about that? What if he had "Lawyered up" before the woodsman so rudely cut him in two.

So the movie tells you the story for Red's perspective first, then the wolf's and the woodsman and so on. Each one a little different, but the one's before aren't wrong just seen from a different angle.

The vocal talent in this film is great. Patrick Warburton (the Tick) has a voice made for cartoons. But the others are good without being overly recognizable. I find it distracting in many of the big animated movies if the all-star cast is so recognizable that every time the character speaks I picture Eddie Murphy or Robin Williams.

The music in the movie is excellent. One song is sung by Ben Folds who did the soundtrack for Over The Hedge and is a favorite of mine.

So overall a fun movie that is worth owning.
