We found this movie by searching IMDB and following a thread from a movie we liked (Love Serenade). This movie is by the same director.

That thread also lead us to Danny Deckchair. That movie we genuinely liked. This one is not quite such a winner. The director gives a similar quirky feel to the setting and characters as she did on Love Serenade and the story is similarly unpredictable. But in the end it leaves an unsatisfying result.

The story follows an ambitious young man as he uses his girlfriend's money to re-launch the singing career of a sexy but slightly older singer. He has taken all of the self-help seminars and really feels that if he just applies all of that accumulated knowledge he can force an outcome that is completely unlikely. If he just believes enough...

Unfortunately for him nobody else believes as much as he does and he can't really convince them. There are some good moments in the film and some good characters. I just don't know if there is enough for me to recommend adding it to your collection. So I am giving it my middle rating, Netflix. if you like quirky, dark, Australian comedies you might like this. But I would make sure you see Love Serenade and Danny Deckchair first.
